The Beach Boys are Back

It's surfs up for the Beach Boys once again as the 3 remaining founding members are getting the band back together for a 50th anniversary tour and a new album.

The 3 original members (Brian Wilson, Mike Love and Al Jardine) will be joined by Bruce Johnston who replaced Glen Campbell in the band when he left to pursue a solo career in 1965 and David Marks who, as a 13-year old joined in 1962, left the band and rejoined in the 90s.

While the relationships within the band (especially between Brian Wilson and Mike Love) were contentious, due to a number of factors including Wilson's mental health, the band has reunited occasionally to mark special occasions and to work together.

The official relaunch of the band will take place with a performance at the 2012 Grammy ceremony taking place in February, with the first date of their tour taking place at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on April 27.

In 1998 Ross Porter flew to Los Angeles to speak with Brian Wilson about the Beach Boys and his career.
